Cavendish University Uganda and Camera For Girls: a street photography workshop in Kampala

Through our partners Cavendish University Uganda and Camera For Girls, young women in Kampala picked up a camera and learned to see their own streets differently.

A facilitator speaks to a group of young women holding cameras on a Kampala street, a Nile Cargo Carrier billboard behind them.
Akili za Kesho is proud to share this from our partners Cavendish University Uganda and Camera For Girls: a hands-on street photography workshop for young women in Kampala. Camera For Girls, a non-profit that puts cameras into the hands of girls and young women and teaches them to use them, led the session on the street itself rather than in a classroom — framing a shot, reading the light, and photographing daily life on a Kampala road, cameras passed from hand to hand and shots checked together on the spot. This is the kind of practical, skills-first learning Akili za Kesho exists to champion: training that puts a real tool in a learner's hands on day one. We're grateful to Cavendish University Uganda and Camera For Girls for a partnership that brings that spirit to photography, the same way our own platform brings it to networking, cybersecurity and AI. A simplified note on accuracy: this post is written from the photographs themselves. We have not yet confirmed the exact date or every detail of the session with our partners, and we are not naming individual facilitators or participants here. We will gladly update this post with their names, the date and a direct quote once confirmed.
